Bocairent walk PR-V122 7km. 3 hours. Level change 300 metres

Classification: medium difficulty

Picture

We start the walk from close to Ontinyent along the side of a river and after passing one of the old woollen mills we cross over a ford to start the climb along the ravine. The walk continues through mixed vegetation until we reach one of the mills which still has the old water wheel and some machinery parts in place.

Much evidence can be seen of the old Ontinyent–Bocairent road on the next stretch with the path being cut out of the living rock. The path continues high above the ravine and some places have steps, which were cut for the mules carrying the cloth and wool to and from the mills.

As we get to the head of the ravine we have the Sierra de Mariola on our right. Descending from the Sierra we can take a break at the natural springs before entering Bocairent where we shall have lunch. After lunch there will be time to explore this picturesque town.

The Pou Clar is the source of the Rio Clariano and the first section of its course is marked by a series of pools and waterfalls, which have all been sculpted by the water and go to make up an attractive area, much used by the local people. Over the generations, each pool has acquired a name; The Pool of Slaves, The Clear Pool, The Frozen Pool, The Side Pool, The Dark Pool and finally The Pool of Horses. There is easy access to the Pozo Claro and the visitor can walk along the whole section as they enjoy the contrasts of colour in the rock formations and water.
